چکیده

This paper is a work-in-progress report about Mockingbird, an intelligent musical agent (IMA) based on Sun’s Clarion cognitive architecture (Sun 2003). We briefly discuss the Clarion system, then examine its Motivation Subsystem and the manner in which it models drive states and goals. Finally we propose a potential structure for modeling fine-grained secondary drives in the context of a free improvisational performance.

Large-scale chronically implantable precision motorized microdrive array for freely behaving animals.

Multiple single-unit recording has become one of the most powerful in vivo electro-physiological techniques for studying neural circuits. The demand has been increasing for small and lightweight chronic recording devices that allow fine adjustments to be made over large numbers of electrodes across multiple brain regions. To achieve this, we developed precision motorized microdrive arrays that ...

Microsatellite primers for the four Galápagos mockingbird species (Mimus parvulus, Mimus macdonaldi, Mimus melanotis and Mimus trifasciatus).

Nineteen di- and tetranucleotide and one trinucleotide microsatellite DNA markers were isolated from the Galápagos mockingbird (Mimus parvulus) and tested for cross-species amplification in the other three mockingbird species in the Galápagos. In addition, primers for two microsatellite loci previously developed for Mimus polyglottos were redesigned to obtain shorter amplification fragments. Th...

Mockingbird: Flexible Stub Compilation from Pairs of Declarations

Mockingbird is a prototype tool for developing interlanguage and distributed applications. It compiles stubs from pairs of interface declarations, allowing existing data types to be reused on both sides of every interface. Other multilanguage stub compilers impose data types on the application, complicating development. Mockingbird supports C/C++, Java, and CORBA IDL, and can be extended to oth...

Incorporating 3D-printing technology in the design of head-caps and electrode drives for recording neurons in multiple brain regions.

Recent advances in recording and computing hardware have enabled laboratories to record the electrical activity of multiple brain regions simultaneously. Lagging behind these technical advances, however, are the methods needed to rapidly produce microdrives and head-caps that can flexibly accommodate different recording configurations. Indeed, most available designs target single or adjacent br...

Differentiation with drift: a spatio-temporal genetic analysis of Galapagos mockingbird populations (Mimus spp.).

Small and isolated island populations provide ideal systems to study the effects of limited population size, genetic drift and gene flow on genetic diversity. We assessed genetic diversity within and differentiation among 19 mockingbird populations on 15 Galápagos islands, covering all four endemic species, using 16 microsatellite loci. We tested for signs of drift and gene flow, and used histo...
